Local candidates are encouraging voters to go out to poll sites, as Tuesday, the last day to vote, nears.
EPISD Board of Trustees candidate for Position 2, Christopher Hiller said he has witnessed large groups of people coming out to support the candidates of their choice.
“We’ve been experiencing a high turnout, particularly having to do with the presidential campaign. I’m more than humbled to be part of the experience for people coming out to vote for, not only what I think is a very monumental election nationally, but locally for our community,” said Hiller. “I just want to encourage the people of Maverick County to come out and make this election one worth remembering, We encourage everyone to come out, and if they do come out, please vote for Christopher Hiller, School Board Position 2.”
Jorge Barrera, who is running for the EPISD Board Position 1 hopes voters will continue to show up as they have been in the past weeks of early voting.
“We’ve seen some very good numbers coming out, and we’re really happy. Everyday we’re seeing record numbers coming out, and I want to encourage everybody to come out and vote while there’s still time, tomorrow and of course Tuesday,” said Barrera. “We’re asking everyone to come out and voice your opinion, it’s very important.”
Dr. Hector Alvarez, up for re-election for EPISD Board Position 6, said he expected the large amount of people showing up to vote.
“I can’t say I’m surprised at what I’ve seen out there because I’ve noticed for a long time this community has been wanting to let their voice be heard, and from what I’ve seen so far that’s exactly what’s been happening. The community has come out and been approaching these polling areas in droves,” said Alvarez. “I’m happy to be a part of it, and I know the community will be happy with whatever the outcome is because the community’s voice has been heard.”
Alvarez added that as a current board member, his time with EPISD would make him a good choice for the community.
“Having served for 4 years has been a great experience. There was definitely a big learning curve, but a curve that nonetheless has been tackled head on. Because of that experience that I’ve had, I think if and when re-elected, I’m going to hit the ground running,” said Alvarez. “It’s something that I’ve already been through. I’m familiar with the whole process, and I think the community will benefit greatly from re-electing myself for the Position 6 of the EPISD Board of Trustees.”
