CBP Air and Marine Operations Crew Rescues Lost Child

Staff reports

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations helicopter aircrew rescued a lost two-year-old child, near Rocksprings, earlier today.

“This is one of the most rewarding situations that our agents can be involved in,” said Jeremy Battenfield, Director of Air Operations, Uvalde Air Branch. “Nothing brings more joy to a law enforcement officer than helping return a lost child to his family.”

The child went missing from his home around 11 a.m. Local law enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol agents began searching the immediate area but were unable to locate the child. The AMO’s Del Rio Air Unit was notified and an aerial search of the area was conducted.

Around 1:30 p.m., the aircrew spotted the child a few miles from his home.

The crew landed the helicopter and stayed with the child until Border Patrol agents arrived on the scene. The child was evaluated by BORSTAR (Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue) agents and determined to be in good condition. Border Patrol agents reunited him with his family shortly thereafter.
