Tuesday marked the end of registration for the EPISD school board election in November.
Positions 1, 2, 6, and 7 will be voted on, and are currently held by board members Humberto Torralba, Ignacio “Nacho” Saucedo, Hector Alvarez, and Glenna Purcell, respectively.
Candidates for Position 1 are Juan Jose “Pachi” Olivares, Ronnie Rivera, Jorge Barrera, and Ricardo “Riche” Lopez; candidates for Position 2 are Ignacio “Nacho” Saucedo and Christopher Hiller; candidates for Position 6 are Hector Alvarez and Carmen Ravena; and candidates for Position 7 are Glenna Purcell and Carmen Schmerber Garcia.
Schmerber Garcia said with her experience in adult and youth education with both EPISD and Sacred Heart Church that she would be a good fit for the school board.
“I have nothing against anyone in the school board. I respect them, but feel that it’s time for change,” said Schmerber Garcia. “I feel like I can contribute my knowledge to the students and to the community.”
School board elections will be held November 8, 2016.
