Eagle Pass CBP Officers Seize Over $4 million Worth of Methamphetamine at Port

EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were active during the weekend seizing nearly 200 pounds of hard narcotics, in two separate enforcement actions at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry.

“The dedicated and hardworking CBP officers at Eagle Pass take CBP’s core value of vigilance to heart when processing travelers seeking entry to the U.S.,” said Port Director John Brandt, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. “These seizures serves to underscore that commitment in the detection of these attempts to smuggle illegal narcotics to enter the country.”

 

On Nov. 10, the officers at the Eagle Pass International Bridge, inspected a 2014 Nissan Altima, driven by a Mexican citizen, as it arrived from Mexico. Officers utilized a non-intrusive imaging system for inspection and a CBP canine. CBP officers retrieved alleged liquid methamphetamine inside 96 bottles within the trunk of the vehicle. Officers seized a total of 181.66 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine with an estimated street value of approximately $3,650,000.

 

On Nov. 12, the officers at Camino Real International Bridge, inspected a 2006 Volkswagen Bora, driven by a Mexican citizen, as it arrived from Mexico. Officers utilized a non-intrusive imaging system for inspection and a canine. CBP officers retrieved four packages of alleged crystal methamphetamine from within the rocker panels of the vehicle. Officers seized a total of 10.3 pounds of alleged crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $454,147.

 

Both drivers in these cases, a 49-year-old man from Frontera, Coahuila, Mexico, who was driving the Nissan Altima and a 30-year-old man from Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, who was driving the 2006 Volkswagen Bora, were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigations.
