Dozens of people lined the streets Saturday, November 5 to watch the annual Veterans Day parade.
Groups of patriotic participants including schools, organizations and businesses paraded down Main Street to honor the men and women who have fought and are still fighting for the nation.
The festivities began at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Church, down Main Street and then toward Commercial Street.
“We always use the phrase freedom isn’t free, and the veterans are living proof of that,” said Representative for the Maverick County Veterans Service Office Ismael Castillo. “It’s very important that people understand why it’s important to participate in these events: it’s so we can show our appreciation to the veterans and their sacrifice. We’re telling the veterans thank you in different activities to honor them, showing them gratitude.”
The American Legion has been organizing the parade for more than 30 years.
