The District 29-5A Cross Country Meet was held Thursday October 20, 2016 at the Municipal Golf Course. Teams from across the district attended including Southside San Antonio, Floresville, McCollum High School, Uvalde and Harlandale.
Both boys and girls teams at the JV nd Varsity level competed on the challenging course.
In the Boys Varsity division, Southside San Antonio came away with top prize with a total of 21 points. Top runners for the Cardinals included 1st place finisher Rene Hernandez with a time of 16.25 followed by teammate Nathanial Rodriguez in second place at 16.41 and in third place Matthew Olivarez with a time of 16.44.
The C.C. Winn Mavericks clenched second place in the district meet behind the fierce running of Yosio Limon who finished in 6th overall place with a time of 17.03. Limon was trailed by Mav Miguel Rendon (17.11) in 7th place. Top runners for the Mavs also included Diego Jimenez (17.41), Ricardo Garcia (18.06), Moises Villarreal (18.08), Ricky Garcia (18.39) and Mario Sandate (19.09).
Floresville was able to hold on to third place spot with a total of 83 points. Top runners were Nathanial Labrada (16.46), Noah Chesser (17.18), Jared Labus (18.26), Isaiah Garcia (18.32), Josiah Hernandez (19.36), Moises Lopez (19.59), Jeffrey Angell (20.36).
In the Girls Varsity Division, Uvalde held the top position with a team score of 39, followed by Floresville with a score of 43. Third place was held by Southside with a score of 70 and Harlandale, McCollum HS and C.C. Winn rounded off the last three spots.
The C.C. Winn Cross Country team will finish off their season with the Region IV Championships in Corpus Christi on October 28-29 and the State Championships in Round Rock on November 11-12.
